“I am left alone, but I turn to the ever-present Jesus, as I walk up and down in my room and pray “Lord Jesus, I am alone, and yet not alone – Thou art with me, Thou art my friend.. Now, Lord, comfort, strengthen me, give to Thy poor servant everything thou seest he needs.” And we should not be satisfied until we are brought to this: that we know the Lord Jesus experimentally, habitually to be our Friend; at all times and under all circumstances, ready to prove Himself to be our Friend. ~George Mueller
Mr. Mueller wrote these words just after the death of his wife of over sixty years. His heart was fully consecrated, and He knew that even in his greatest loneliness, he was not alone. For the Lord Jesus was with Him. There will be times when it is just me and Jesus, just you and Jesus. Times when you feel alone, and the fear of being forgotten hangs onto you like a clamp. So may we know the Lord Jesus in these times – the true friend who sticks closer than any brother or friend – who meets and supplies every need, and yes, after a season of solitude, brings again the desires of the heart into fulfillment. Only trust Him!
